[timestamp=1331634130]

Lots of warm weather and rain have reduced the trail system to dirt and with temps predicted to hold about 60 for the next several days little snow, if any, will remain in Missaukee County. Reports will return when, and if, we received any snowfall but at this point its most likely 2011-12 snowmobile season is over.

Heart Lake Resort Trail and Snow Report - Gaylord Friday, March 9th - 8:19 am
Colder today. 23.3 degrees here as I write this. Woke up to about two to three inches of new light and fluffy snow and it is snowing right now. NOAA is callin...g for two to four more inches today and very cold tonight - 6 or so degrees. Warmer tomorrow though. (go to www.NOAA.gov and put in Gaylord, Michigan and you'll see exactly what I'm seeing) Prior to these colder temps which came in late Wednesday night, we had two very warm days - one day made it to 55 degrees and the trails went to slush. I was on them yesterday though to give them a first-hand check and they we frozen and icy. We would need every bit of this new snow on top of what we had last night to have enough on that icy base to keep things lubricated for riding. Wish I had a Crystal Ball and I wish I could tell you better! John @ Heart Lake Resort just south of Gaylord. 989-732-5081 www.HeartLakeResort.com
TRAIL CONDITIONS: Impassable

Mother nature was finally good to us with up to two feet of snow, the problem with that is it was a wet heavy snow and it knocked down trees across the trails. The groomers went out Saturday night and spent all night cutting trees and moving them off the trail and only made it about 15 miles total between them. The trails are impassable at this time, we're doing the best we can to clear them. I would have to say that about 80% of the system is still blocked.The groomers will not be going out to groom again until the trails are clear.
Well I went out today again and groomed, WOW is an understatement! Today there was A LOT of traffic out (counted 78 sleds) taking advantage of the great conditions. 768 to 4-76 is the best that trail has been in 3 years, FLAT and LOTS of snow! 4-76 to 4 was real rough, but we've been working on it and there is plenty of snow. 4 to Settings has a few tan spots but is in great shape. 4-76 toward Alba is also great until you cross Cinder Hill road, there are few bare spots here and there but nothing major

Overall I think the trail will hold up very well with the expected warm up for the next 2 days. I've heard a lot of complaints as to the trail conditions this weekend, I have to appologize they weren't so somes expectations, but 15-20"+ of WET & HEAVY snow just isn't that easy to make flat in a matter of 2 days with a bazillion sleds running on it as well! Needless to say it's flat and compacted now!

Thank you to everyone that was here and got enjoyment out of our trail system! See ya next weekend!

Thursday, March 1, 2012

Snow accumulation: 9 inches*

The snow gauge is showing 9 inches this morning but that doesn't give a true picture. We received 4 or 5 inches Tuesday night/Wednesday morning followed by a rain/sleet mix. That packed our new snow considerably. Then last night we picked up a couple more inches of fluff of the hard pack. There should be great riding today but be wary of what is under the new snow. It could be ice.
